Marian Rivera stars in an "original" soap for the first time; clarifies "topless" publicity of Amaya

"Saka sabi ko nga, for the first time, gagawa ako ng soap, 'Ay, hindi na remake!'

NEW LEADING MAN.

Lahat 'yan meron. Pero still, Amaya is Amaya...

Ganun katindi.

Pinili ko 'to, e.

Aljur Abrenica's Machete does well on its final week, based on AGB data in Mega Manila

Hard work really does pay off for Aljur Abrenica, who has now proven his worth as a bankable primetime leading man.

His recently-concluded series Machete ended on a high note beating all counterpart programs on its final week of airing. Machete earned a 34.9 percent average household audience share in Mega Manila covering the period of March 14 to 18, 6.3 points ahead of its competitor's 28.6 percent. This is according to ratings data from widely-recognized ratings provider AGB Nielsen.

From physically preparing for his role, promoting his show, to executing his scenes, Aljur displayed admirable dedication and professionalism as an actor. His Machete diet--Aljur's personal diet of no-sweets, no carbs, just veggies, fruits and loads of kamote--became a fad, while his mall shows conducted all over the Philippines were always jampacked with screaming fans.

But make no mistake, Aljur remains humble despite his recent achievements and promises to further enhance his craft. "I am very thankful for the support of my fans, who avidly watched Machete. Of course, I am most grateful to GMA-7 for their full support all throughout the series."

With the finale of Machete, Aljur is now busy with workshops in preparation for his next project.

GMA-7's Kitchen Superstar to award winning amateur cook with P1 million

After the success of Survivor Philippines, GMA-7 is launching another reality show on Philippine primetime. Titled Kitchen Superstar, the new show aims to find the best amateur cook in the country.

There is no announced schedule for Kitchen Superstar yet. However, auditions had already been held all over the country since February.

PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) was present at the first auditions held at SM Skydome, SM North, Quezon City on February 19.

A total of 827 individuals came up to audition. It was a mixed group: mothers and carinderia owners auditioned along with wannabe models and actors. All of them brought choice samples of the dishes that they prepared for the judges to taste.

PEP and other entertainment press were able to talk to Marvin Agustin, the show's host, in the middle of the audition day. The actor said he does not just want to be a host for the show, because he also wants to be a mentor to the contestants.

Marvin, a self-made restaurateur, said he can see himself in the various contestants that showed up for the audition.

Professionals chefs and graduates of culinary schools were barred from joining the contest, Marvin mentioned, because the show aims to discover ordinary people who have passion for cooking.

Marvin said one does not need to study in school to be a top chef.

Kasi at first, sinasabi ko sa sarili ko, 'Am I a kitchen superstar? Am I the big chef in the Philippines?'"

Life experiences, he added, teaches passion, which in turn makes good cooks.

"You don't have to be technical about cooking.

Those who pass auditions will go through rigorous challenges, to be helmed by the country's top chefs. The ultimate winner will then be awarded a P1 million cash prize. Becoming the host of his/her cooking show may also be thrown into the prize pot.

"Actually may sinabi rin sila sa aking possible cooking show, kung itong mananalo ay entertaining, kayang humarap sa camera, maganda ang personality, puwede siyang magkaroon ng sariling cooking show," Marvin said.

Marian Rivera, Heart Evangelista, Lovi Poe and Solenn Heusaff will topbill the 2011 remake of Temptation Island

Four GMA-7 actresses will bring life to the remake of Temptation Island, the 1980 comedy directed by the late Joey Gosiengfiao.

Marian Rivera, Heart Evangelista, Lovi Poe and Solenn Heusaff will bring life to the beauty pageant contestants who are stranded on an island and begin hallucinating about food and other absurd objects.

Marian will reprise the role of a con artist originally portrayed by Azenith Briones while Solenn brings life to a social climber originally played by Bambi Arambulo.

According to a PEP source, Heart was uncomfortable about doing a  scene in the movie so she switched roles with Lovi Poe. The source also disclosed that Lovi did not mind exchanging roles with Heart because they are friends.

As a result, Lovi will now portray the role of a socialite originally played by Jennifer Cortez while Heart reprises the role of a college student originally played by Dina Bonnevie.

Rufa Mae Quinto will reprise the role of Deborah Sun, the maid of Jennifer Cortez in the original film. Peachy (Rufa Mae's nickname) will be seen as the maid of Lovi's character in the 2011 remake. John "Sweet" Lapus is also part of the film as the gay pageant coordinator.

The stars will begin shooting in Ilocos Norte by mid-April.

Aljur Abrenica, Paulo Avelino, and Tom Rodriguez are also cast in Temptation Island as the leading men.

Regal Films and GMA Films, the producers of the remake, are still looking for another male actor who will serve as the second love interest of Marian in the film.

Chris Martinez will direct the remake of the movie Temptation Island. He also helmed the play Temptation Island: Live that was staged at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 2003. Direk Chris also megged the comedy film Here Comes The Bride (2010) and "Gunaw" episode of My Valentine Girls (2011) starring Eugene Domingo and Richard Gutierrez.

Marian Rivera topbills Bampirella, the first offering of GMA-7's Spooky Nights

GMA Network goes back to serving series on Saturday nights with its new horror-comedy show, Spooky Nights, to begin on March 26. The show airs back-to-back with Man vs Beast, taking a portion of the Kapuso Film Festival time slot.

In Spooky Nights, a story would run for a number of weeks and would be replaced by a new one with a different cast once it finishes. Although the stories have slightly scary themes, they are basically funny and wacky.

For its first offering, Spooky Nights features Bampirella, a vampire tale that deviates from overly dramatic or commonly freaky vampire stories these days. Bampirella is a female vampire who was a mere human until she was cursed to transform into a 'beautiful yet undead creature' every time the clock strikes twelve midnight.

Kapuso primetime queen, Marian Rivera, plays as the lead character, Bampirella or Cindy. Although viewers have seen Marian playing comic as in the hit sitcom Show Me Da Manny, her portrayal in this show differs because there is conflict within her character. Cindy is naturally loving and generous but her curse turns her into the scary Bampirella.

A beautiful woman, Cindy works in a chocolate factory where Mitch (Gelli De Belen) is the manager. Unknown to Cindy, Mitch is a cunning witch and would later curse her to be an ugly human during daytime.  By nightfall, she goes back to being beautiful but also becomes a vampire.

Being cursed, Cindy has only one way to be human again—to find her true love. However, she has to suck the blood and the life out of this man to really break Mitch's curse.

Will Cindy find her true love if she is ugly at daytime and a vampire at nighttime? Can she take his life once she finds him? Or will she choose to live a cursed life than to kill her one true love?

See a funny take on vampire stories and witness how true love can overcome even the craziest curse.

Adding kilig and fun to Cindy's otherwise dark world are two hot Kapuso stars: Marc Abaya stars as Armand, the rocker vampire who wants to own Cindy; and Mikael Daez, as Michael, a dentist who also applies to be her one true love. Another admirer is Dingdong Dantes in his special role as Cindy's ex-boyfriend named Alfonso.

Other cast members are: Gladys Guevarra as Rosario, Cindy's best friend; Ken De Leon as Angelina and Jervi Li as Megan Pak, Mitch's sidekicks; and the cute Isabel Nesreen Frial as Eya, Cindy's sister.

Under the direction of Director Albert Langitan with Head Writer Senedy Que, Spooky Nights Presents: Bampirella airs every Saturday before Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho in GMA's Sabado Star Power starting March 26.

Spooky Nights Presents: Bampirella can be seen by Filipino viewers worldwide beginning April 2 (Asia Pacific and Middle East) and April 3 (U.S. and Canada) on GMA Pinoy TV.
