GMA Network CEO pushes for entrepreneurship

GMA Network’s Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon believes that it is high time the young generation be oriented towards entrepreneurship.
“Part of our mindset and training is to become professionals and work for big companies as employees or managers. We should change that and develop the entrepreneurship orientation among young people,” Gozon says. “Even our schools need to train the students to become future entrepreneurs.”
Gozon underscored the need for more entrepreneurs to help boost the country’s economy. He said that in starting up a business, people do not need a lot of money or capital. “If you study the stories of successful businessmen in our country, most of them started small, but look at where they are now,” Gozon says.
To help encourage more people to become entrepreneurs, GMA Network has partnered with Joey Concepcion’s Go Negosyo for the biggest women entrepreneurship summit and expo dubbed, “Babae: Kapuso Ka ng Bayan.”
Gozon says that women are very capable of becoming successful entrepreneurs. “Women know the importance of taking care of the family. Running a business is in a way like running a home, you need to pay attention to a lot of details,” Gozon concludes.

'MAGIC PALAYOK' dominates its timeslot with high TV ratings

GMA Network’s daily primetime series MAGIC PALAYOK dominates its timeslot with consistent high TV ratings based on household data from the more widely recognized industry ratings supplier Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

Magic Palayok remains to be one of the most watched primetime soaps on the Telebabad block. It has beaten all counterpart programs pitted against it with a Mega Manila household rating of 23.9 percent versus ABS-CBN’s Mula sa Puso 11.6 percent on March 28. This impressive lead continued on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after its posted 23.5 percent on March 30, 10.6 percent on March 30 and 18 percent on March 31.

The telefantasya, which is created by the GMA Entertainment TV Group, never ceases to provide a unique blend of charm, entertainment and magical treat for audiences of all ages. Viewers especially the younger ones are fascinated on the adventures of Cookie (Angeli Nicole Sanoy) and her Magic Palayok.

This week, Cookie is back under the care of her wicked aunties, Yvonne (Cherie Gil) and Natasha (Chynna Ortaleza). This came after Natasha discovered that Ricky (Frank Garcia) was just pretending to be Cookie’s real father, Richard Cruz. With a heavy heart, Cookie must return and live again in their mansion.

To cheer her up, Natasha and Yvonne bring Cookie in a carnival. Here, Cookie meets a magician named Kardo. They get along instantly and Cookie completely enjoys his company.

Their conversation is abruptly cut short when Cookie hears the name of Richard Cruz being paged in the area. Cookie quickly runs towards the customer service and upon her arrival, she sees Kardo claiming he is Richard Cruz!

Will Cookie’s search for her missing father finally ends? Is Kardo the real Richard Cruz?

Magic Palayok airs Mondays to Fridays before 24 Oras on GMA.

GMA 7 continues to lead ratings game

Television giant GMA Network Inc. continued to dominate nationwide ratings in the first three months of the year as it sought to unseat rival ABS-CBN as the country’s top television station.

This also came amid stiffer competition in the industry due to the entry of TV5, backed by the well-funded group of businessman Manuel V. Pangilinan.

“GMA Network tightened its grip on the number one spot on national free-to-air television amid competition brought by stations ABS-CBN and TV5, which ranked second and third, respectively,” the company said in a statement issued on Saturday.

The latest survey by AGB Nielsen Philippines, which advertisers watch to know where their placements can reach a bigger audience, showed that GMA posted an average audience share of 33.7 percent in the first quarter of 2011. This was higher than ABS-CBN’s 31.8 percent and TV5’s 15.2 percent.

For total urban Luzon, GMA garnered 37.2 percent against 26.8 percent for ABS and 17.1 percent for TV5. In Mega Manila, GMA posted a 13.1 percentage-point lead over ABS-CBN with 38.3 percent and 25.2 percent, respectively. TV5 was a far third with 17.9-percent audience share.

For the month of March alone, GMA lodged a 34-percent average audience share, 2.2 percent up from ABS-CBN’s 31.8 percent; 18.2 percent higher than TV5’s 15.8 percent in the viewer-rich Urban Luzon area.

“There were 21 GMA-produced programs that made it to the top 30 programs in Urban Luzon,” the company said.
The Nielsen TV Audience Measurement cited by GMA is used by 21 companies, including two other local TV networks, namely TV5 and Solar Entertainment.

On the other hand, ABS-CBN is the only local network reportedly subscribing to Kantar Media, formerly known as TNS, which consistently comes out with data showing ABS-CBN leading in nationwide ratings.

ABS-CBN earlier accused AGB Nielsen of padding survey results to show GMA Network in the lead. Nationwide, Nielsen has a total sample size of 2,005 homes compared with the lower sample size of 1,370 used by Kantar Media.
